Avebury Transport Strategy
The Avebury World Heritage Site (WHS) Transport Strategy establishes an agreed approach to managing the negative impact of transport infrastructure and associated traffic in the WHS. It addresses the challenges related to the management of roads and traffic in the Avebury WHS and sets out a series of recommended schemes to overcome these challenges whilst recognising the importance of maintaining an efficient transport network and access for local people and visitors. It includes a set of Design Principles to ensure that any proposed changes related to transport and highways in the WHS should aim to protect and enhance this special environment.
Whilst no funding sources have yet been identified to take forward the more significant schemes outlined in the Strategy, work is underway with local partners and stakeholders to prioritise schemes and seek appropriate funding streams. As schemes are taken forward, the local community will be consulted on the detailed proposals. The schemes in this strategy will also be included as actions in the WHS Management Plan.
