Trowbridge station improvements unveiled

Nearly £1million worth of improvements were unveiled at Trowbridge train station on Friday 18th September by local MP Claire Perry.

The rail minister unveiled a plaque marking the completion of a number of improvements which have greatly improved passengers’ experiences, as well as bringing the station and access to it up to modern standards.

Horace Prickett, portfolio holder for transport at Wiltshire Council said: “I am delighted with the new, improved service here in Trowbridge. This, along with the success of the TransWilts train service will really boost the use of the station, and make it much more comfortable for people who use it.”

The improvements include: • New waiting shelters on both platforms • New ticket vending machines on both platforms • New cycle parking shelters on both platforms and in the car park • Improvements to pedestrian access such as handrails on the footbridge • Extension to bike parking • Resurfacing, new lighting and improved layout in the car parks • Demolition of the old taxi office to create additional car parking spaces • CCTV • An electric car charging point

The £994,325 worth of improvements began in January this year and were completed by April. The project has been part funded by Wiltshire Council via the government funded Local Sustainable Transport Fund LSTF (£579,319) with the remainder a combination of funding from the National Stations Improvements Programme and Office for Low Emissions Vehicles funding.
