The Tour of Britain came to Wiltshire
26 Sep 2014The Friends Life Tour of Britain came to Wiltshire on 12 September 2014.
The Tour of Britain started in Liverpool city centre on September 7 and arrived in Wiltshire five days later. Stage 6 saw more than 100 of the world’s top cyclists racing through the streets of Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Devizes and Pewsey and the villages along the 67.5km Wiltshire route.
Stage 6 started in front of Royal Crescent in Bath before heading into Wiltshire at Lower Stoke. The race continued along the B3108 before the crowds gathered at Bradford on Avon getting their first glimpse of the riders on the A363 Masons Lane.
Spectators watched the peloton in Silver Street and St Margaret’s Street before the teams headed for Trowbridge along the A363. The villages of Semington and Seend became a blur as the peloton reached speeds of more than 40kmh on the A361.
The beautiful Vale of Pewsey became the backdrop as the riders took first the A342 before turning onto the A345 and into Pewsey itself. The peloton headed out of town on the B3087, turning onto the A338 and out of Wiltshire.
