Cycle into spring on new Warminster cycle path
08 Mar 2017Now that spring is arriving, it’s time to dust off your bike and get cycling again.
A new cycle scheme on Portway in Warminster was constructed last Autumn, completing a cycle route from Warminster rail station and town centre to the Bath Road business/ industrial parks.
The recent works involved the widening of sections of footway and converting them to shared use paths, an improved refuge crossing on Portway, the removal of the right turn lane from Portway to Portway Lane and a new raised table crossing point at this junction. The works were funded by Wiltshire Council’s Integrated Transport Block.
Over recent years, Wiltshire Council has also completed cycle schemes at Glovers Lane, between Newopaul Way and Portway Lane and at Bartholomew Lane, between Portway and North Row (see below) as part of the Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund programme.
These three schemes together complete a safe cycling corridor, on a combination of shared use paths and quiet roads, from Warminster rail station and town centre, to the Bath Road business parks, Crusader Park and Furnax Lane, significantly improving the sustainable transport options between these areas of the town.
