Cycle improvements around Wiltshire’s rail stations

Wiltshire Council has been working with South West Trains and First Great Western to improve pedestrian and cycle access around rail stations in towns across Wiltshire.

Improvements have already been made to Bartholemew Lane in Warminster, and the footpath between Hardens Mead and Long Close in Chippenham has been upgraded to a shared use path. Street lighting is soon to be improved on Avebury Close in Westbury.

A new cycle parking compound for season ticket holders has been installed in collaboration with South West Trains at Salisbury Station. New cycle parking has also been installed at Great Bedwyn Station in collaboration with First Great Western. In June, work is due to start on new cycle paths on Stallard Street Gyratory in Trowbridge, and in Monkton Park, Chippenham and in July footpaths will be widened and upgraded to cycle paths between Forest Lane and Lodge Lane, and London Road and Habrels Close.  Further improvements in Chippenham, Salisbury, Warminster and Westbury are scheduled to take place in August and September.

The improvements are being made with funding from the government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
