Canal towpath improvements in Devizes

09 Apr 2015

Work has now begun on the £200,000 Wiltshire Council scheme to widen the Kennet & Avon canal towpath in Devizes.

The scheme will widen the towpath from London Road to Cemetery Bridge to 2.1 metres. The work, which is being undertaken by the Canal and River Trust, is likely to take between six and eight weeks.

This initiative has been designed to provide an accessible cycle and walking route into town using the canal towpath which would be widened and then resurfaced with bonded gravel.

The scheme has been supported by Devizes Town Council along with Sustrans, DCAP and Cycle Devizes, who have also been involved with the scheme.

Wiltshire Council will continue to look for funding to improve other sections of the canal path across the county.
