Buses replace trains Bath to Bristol in April

From Saturday 2 to Sunday 10 April 2016 the railway between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads will be closed for improvement works. This will mean:

  • buses will replace trains between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa
  • Oldfield Park and Keynsham stations will be closed
  • a revised train service will operate from Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, and some services will be diverted

Changes to our High Speed Intercity services

Trains between the West of England and Paddington via Westbury, and services between South Wales and Paddington will not be affected by the works. All other changes are listed below.

Bristol Temple Meads and Paddington

There will be 1 train an hour in each direction between these stations, but it will not call at Bath Spa or Chippenham. During peak periods, it will call at Filton.

Bath Spa, Chippenham and Paddington

There will be 1 train an hour in each direction between these stations, which will call at Chippenham.

The West of England and Paddington via Bristol Temple Meads

We will be running an amended timetable between these stations, and some services will be withdrawn.

Changes to our Regional services

Weymouth and Bristol Temple Meads

Trains between these stations will start and end at Bath Spa.

Portsmouth and Cardiff Central

Trains between these stations will be diverted and will start and end at Swindon, where passengers should change for connections to Bristol Parkway and South Wales. A service between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central will operate every 30 minutes.

Westbury and Bath Spa

A train service will operate between these stations, with increased frequency during peak periods.

Rail Replacement Bus services

Rail replacement buses will be operating on the following routes:

  • Bath Spa – Bristol Temple Meads non-stop – every 15 minutes (journey time 50 minutes)
  • Bath Spa – Oldfield Park – Keynsham – Bristol Temple Meads – every 30 minutes
  • Keynsham – Bristol Temple Meads – every 30 minutes
  • Castle Cary – Bristol Temple Meads – 2 services in the morning, 2 services in the evening
  • Frome – Bath Spa – Bristol Temple Meads – Saturdays and Sundays only
