Bus pass consultation launched
12 Aug 2014Wiltshire residents are being asked for their views on proposed changes to concessionary bus fares from next year. Wiltshire is the only local authority in the region which currently provides all-day concessionary passes to all eligible groups at a cost to the taxpayer of almost £4.6m a year.
The council faces significant financial pressures with reduced funding from central government, increased service demand and inflation and these pressures are likely to increase.
It is proposed that, with effect from 1 April 2015, the bus pass scheme will be amended so that the Wiltshire bus pass can be used in Wiltshire from either 9am or 9.30am Monday to Friday (but not before these times) and at all times on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Wiltshire Council is interested in whether you think the concessions should come into effect at 9am or 9.30am and why. They are also interested in views about whether this should apply to all Wiltshire bus passes, whether issued because of age or disability, or whether there are special reasons why bus passes for disabled people should continue “to be available at all times.
