How to avoid the London Road roadworks

Five weeks of roadworks are due to start on October 17th on the London Road in Salisbury.

There have been 12 crashes at the junction of the A30 London Road and Barrington Road over the past decade, resulting in 13 injuries, five of which were classified as serious. To improve safety, there will be changes to the signal phasing and a right turn lane will be installed. To enable this, the carriageway will be widened, and road markings will be improved. There will also be improvements to the central traffic island to help pedestrians and carriageway surfacing where the widening has taken place. There will be temporary traffic lights for the majority of the work.

Philip Whitehead, cabinet member for highways, said: “We constantly monitor the collision rates on our roads and address any issues we can. “We always have to balance any measures we put in place to ensure we don’t cause unnecessary delays. “There have been some issues at this junction, and this proposed work will help. As always though, I would urge people to drive safely and according to the conditions.”

• Take the X5 bus from Swindon, Marlborough, Pewsey and Amesbury
• Take the Activ8 bus from Andover, Tidworth and Amesbury
• Take the 66 bus from Idmiston, Porton and the Winterbournes
• Use the Beehive P&R
• Take the train from Andover, Grately or Swindon
• Take the train for longer journeys passing through Salisbury
• Cycle from Bishopsdown and the Hampton Park area using St Mark’s Avenue.
• Take the Red2 bus from Bishopsdown
